Cottage Licensing FAQs
Note: A license is not required if you are selling your finished items for a charity.
What is a cottage license?
A cottage license allows 1 (one) individual permission to make and sell for profit items made from patterns designed and sold by me (Kalurah Hudson). A cottage license does not allow mass production of finished items.
What are the benefits of obtaining a cottage license?
I will link to licensed knitters/crocheters on each pattern’s page, as well as under the “Licensed Sellers” section of this site. License holders are also who I recommend when I am contacted by customers looking for finished products. Each license will include a badge for you to display on your website indicating that you are an official licensee of While They Play Designs, as well as a hangtag template.
How much do you charge for a Cottage License?
I offer either an annual or lifetime license on either a single pattern or my entire pattern library. Please refer to the pricing table.
Are the patterns included with the license?
All patterns are sold separately from the cottage license, with the exception of the all patterns lifetime license. The all patterns lifetime license allows free access to every pattern in my library including any future patterns that I publish (this does not include patterns that are exclusive to other companies).
Do you offer discounts on licensing?
Yes, the lifetime option of either the single pattern or all pattern license will save you at least 10%. The all patterns lifetime option also has the added value of including access to all of my current and future patterns#.
Do you offer refunds?
All license sales are final and nonrefundable.
How do I obtain a license?
I have a vetting process for license applications. I take great pride in each of my patterns and I want to ensure that only the most qualified applicant receives a license to sell my designs. I want only the highest quality production and materials used when my name is attached to it. When I refer someone to a Licensee I want to be confident that the customer will only receive a product of the highest standards. Just as I hope you feel that you are receiving quality designs from me.
Therefore, I require that you complete the form below including examples of your finished work, a link to any customer feedback that you have received, and links to where you sell your goods. Once you have filled out the form, I will review the information you provided and subject to approval, I will then send you an invoice through PayPal (using the email address provided in the form).
